There is no specific age line for starting to wear pointe shoes, however, most dance teachers would not encourage girls under the age of around 12 to wear them. The main deciding factor is the strength of the dancer, and dancing capability (around grade 5).
You can totally wear socks over your pointe shoes on carpet if you want to warm up your feet. Just remember that it's never a good idea to wear socks on top of your pointe shoes to go on pointe, as it's really slippery (learned from bad experiences) and don't go on pointe on carpet (twisted an ankle a couple times doing that) unless you mean dance carpet, as in, the flooring in your dance studio.
Pointe shoes (aka toe shoes) are shoes that we ballerinas wear to enhance our performance. Contrary to popular opinion, Pointe shoes are not made out of wood, but of paper mache. The shoes give the illusion that we are on our toes, while in reality the shoes are supporting our weight and our toes are being cushioned by padding.Pointe shoes are not comfortable, though, and many blisters, bunions, and foot injuries come from dancing "en Pointe." To be able to dance on Pointe you must have had several years of dance and very strong ankles."If you are asking what Pointe shoes are then they are ballet shoes elevated to look like ballerinas where dancing on clouds. If you're asking what Pointe shoes do, they elevate a dancer to full pointe." -Dancecrazed

Pointe shoes is when a ballerina's foot is strong enough to wear them, they wear them to advance in ballet and to have the part of lifting off the ground as of being closest to flying. Not all ballerinas wear pointe shoes; some wear slippers (demi-pointe shoes), either because they are not strong enough, or because they have high of arches on their feet so it would not be safe for them. With hard work and practice a ballerina's foot can become strong enough at a time when they can go on pointe

Hi, It is impossible to gauge what size you would be in pointe shoes. Some shoes are made big and some are made small. There are also other factors in the fitting of pointe shoes eg. width! The only way is to be professionally fitted at a dance store! Do not buy pointe shoes over the internet unless you are a professional dancer who knows exactly what size ,width and make she wears!

Well if you're talking about Ballet then they all wear pointe shoes. They are the classic shoes you associate with Ballet but boy, do they hurt! The pointe shoes require you to dance on your tippy toes and if under age children ( aged up until at least 12 years old) try to use pointe it can lead to damage of the foot, the best example being Cheryl Cole, who had gone onto pointe too early which caused her to damage her feet and had to get an operation before being able to wear high heels. But pointe shoes aren't all bad. They look great and if used right, cause no injuries.
Do by pre-ballet you mean pre-pointe? Because Pre-Pointe is the lesson that is provided to Pointe ballet dancers that are not yet ready to wear or perform in pointe shoes. Commonly the class is the same if not similar to regular pointe class, the only difference is that the dancer wears regular ballet shoes and performs on demi pointe. Basically, pre-pointe is the class that readies your feet and legs for the strength and skill needed to perform in Pointe Shoes.
