Be sure the tights you buy are made for males. The material is thicker and more opaque. They can be found in boys sizes with a search online from a small number of suppliers. Also buy a male leotard and perhaps a tan dance belt. (The latter is a specialized undergarment for a male dancer, Before puberty some people think the leotard worn under the tights will be sufficient support. Later a dance belt is vital as it functions in the same way as a jock strap.)

At age 8, a boy may be too young to have reservations about wearing tights, in which case there is no difficulty.

If he is hesitant, simply leave the dancewear items in their wrappers in his bedroom. Curiosity should do the rest. You will likely find them unwrapped a little later after he discovers them.

A boy getting involved with Ballet is probably fairly willing to buy into the deal about wearing tights because he will know it goes with the territory. Definitely work out any anxiety before the first class so that he can begin on the first day and continue from there. Emphasize the excitement of looking like a real dancer from the start. Compliments when you see him wearing them will help, as will approval from siblings.

Wearing shorts over the tights may be less intimidating, but the teacher for various reasons may prefer to have him start out in tights alone. Consult with the teacher if your son has specific issues.

The teacher may suggest another boy that he could talk with as a peer, if necessary.

What does the ballet word prepointe mean?

The level of ballet class that you take before you are ready to go on full pointe.

What is pre ballet?

Do by pre-ballet you mean pre-pointe? Because Pre-Pointe is the lesson that is provided to Pointe ballet dancers that are not yet ready to wear or perform in pointe shoes. Commonly the class is the same if not similar to regular pointe class, the only difference is that the dancer wears regular ballet shoes and performs on demi pointe. Basically, pre-pointe is the class that readies your feet and legs for the strength and skill needed to perform in Pointe Shoes.

Why do ballet dancers wear what they do?

This depeneds on if you're talking about a proffessional ballet dancer and a training ballet dancer. Both wear nude pink tights and a leotard. Some dancers also wear skirts over their leotards. The only time a tutu is worn is during a ballet (like Swan Lake) or sometimes basic colored classical (or pancake) tutus are worn suring rehearsal and/or for dancers in ballet trainee programs Houston Ballet II and the San Francisco Ballet trainee program. Short leg warmers are sometimes worn/allowed during the colder months and are almost always only allowed during barre work. Dancers ALWAYS ALWAYS have small neat hair buns. Dancers wear soft pink ballet slippers, and advanced dancers and female proffessional dancers wear pointe shoes (shoes that support you when you are dancing on your toes.) A proffessional ballet dancer is a member of a proffessional ballet company like the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, Washington. These dancers are extremley talented. Their mornings consist of the basic company class and then it's followed by ballet rehearsals. Proffessional dancers dance for about 7 hours a day 6 days a week. A ballet dancer in training attends ballet class several hours a day to perfect his or her ballet technique so, that at age 17 or 18 they are ready to join a proffessional ballet company and pass the ballet company audition. This is extremley hard work and it never gets "easy". Female ballet dancers with very, very strong ballet technique, alignment, and balance who are at LEAST 12 years old do pointe work. In the summer ballet dancers training to become proffessionals attend ballet summer intensives like Boston Ballet's Summer Dance Inetnsive. Ballet dancers also perform in ballets like The Nutcracker and Giselle, and sometimes copete in BALLET competitions like Youth America Grand Prix, Jackson International Ballet Competition, and Prix de Lausanne. Dnacers on track for proffessional ballet career also attend a proffessional ballet school that is linked to a proffesional ballet company by age 15, however they've had many years with a pre-proffessional ballet school before that.

Why did the students tie their shoelaces together?

Is 2 years of ballet enough practice before dancing en pointe?

2 years of ballet is not enough practice. I have been taking ballet for 9 years and am still not ready. It also depends on your growth plate and how strong your ankles are.
