well no just a leotard
It depends on the uniform for the dance school, usually a pair of ballet shoes, tights and a leotard.
leotard, tutu, tights and pointe shoes (or slippers).Wait, the traditional costume or uniform--What they traditionally wear in class? Well, it all depends of what kind of ballet it is. Classical or modern--the women wear a leotard (or unitard), tights and toe shoes. The men wear some kind of shirt or leotard, tights and basic ballet slippers. Sometimes both the men and women are barefoot. The on-stage costume? Well, if it's a classical piece, they wear the kind of clothes in the middle ages. It's a period piece. In contemporary stuff, they usually wear full body-stockings or uni-tards.
For ballet class- Leotard, pink ballet tights, silk/leather/canvas pink or black ballet shoes, a ballet skirt (optional) On stage, you either wear a tutu, or a long ballet dress. But, it could be anything!!
It depends what style you dance. I dance Contemporary, so I wear a leotard, black footless tights, and ballet or jazz shoes which are tie up black soled shoes. I also sometimes wear a jumper over my leotard, and tight black dance shorts over my footless tights. Black leggings and a t-shirt are also common. In ballet, which I am starting soon, and have done before, I will wear my black leotard with pink ballet tights and ballet shoes. For street dance or hip hop, I would wear baggy trousers, a t-shirt and skate shoes or high-top trainers. So, it purely depends on which style.
If your going to watch one: A nice suit and tie. If your in one: A costume In dance class(guys): white t-shirt and tights (maybe jazz pants or bike shorts if allowed..)

To start a ballet class you will need dance clothes(usually a leotard and tights but they differ with teachers) ballet shoes either leather satin or canvas(preferences differ with teacher as well) a dance bag to keep your things in and most importantly an open mind and willingness to learn!
Pink tights, black leotard, canvas or leather ballet shoes, and your hair in a neat bun. Wrap or pull-on skirts and bun accessories add a nice touch!"It all depends if there's a dress code.Traditionally, if you're male in a ballet class--what to wear is a T-shirt (usually white) with black tights and shoes. If you're a woman--some kind of leotard with pink tights and matching slippers, or if you're trained enough, Pointe shoes.Well--this is what they wear in class, anyway. On the stage, there's usually some kind of costume of some sort. Some classes/schools don't nessicarily have a dress code and students can wear whatever. Just make sure you can work out properly in it."--Good Luck and See You In Class, Dane Youssef
In class/lessons you would most likely wear a leotard with ballet-pink stockings and ballet slippers or pointe shoes. If you were performing you would wear a tutu with stockings and Pointe shoes. You don't always wear pointe shoes, sometimes you wear ballet shoes/slippers.
You should just call the local dance studio and ask what their policy is. In general, I think you'd need to get a leotard and ballet slippers. You might also want to get a pair of tights and a tutu, but these might not be essential. Some small children use stretch pants over their leotard. If money is tight, you can try to purchase a used leotard and ballet slippers on Craigslist. Just make sure you wash the leotard before use. Also, Walmart, Target, and Kmart usually sell leotards for around $10 and ballet slippers are also pretty inexpensive, maybe $10 or so, depending on where you get them. You don't need toe shoes (the ones with the hard toes) for quite a while!
You should wear a black leotard (any style) and pink or white tights. Wear pink ballet slippers or pointe shoes. Hair must be secured in a ponytail or a bun. optional- add a black or pink ballet skirt if you would like. boys- black shorts and white shirt. Wear black ballet shoes. Bring a water bottle.
On stage they will wear a costume, probably a tutu. But while in class the proper uniform is a black leotard, pink ballet tights, leather or canvas ballet shoes, and your hair in a nice bun. Wrap or pull-on skirts and bun accessories are a nice touch!
