from the BC Athletics 9 year old records at around 5:10,

i would extrapolate that somewhere a boy has run that

fast who had not yet turned 9.

encouraging youngsters to work that hard could be viewed

as cruelty!

Fred:[ I (fredcro) , doubt very much a 8 year old boy has run 5.10 ... ish .... I would bet that 5.30-40 would be top of the pile ]

Here are the age-group World records for the Mile and 1500m for young runners

MILE [age/time/name/birthdate/location/date of event] 7 Years Old 5:53.0 Kevin Knox USA 16 Dec 59 Wasco CA 23 Sep 67.... 8 Years Old 5:36.6 Mike Assumma USA 30 Aug 63 Bakersfield CA 3 Jun 72.... 9 Years Old 5:19.6 Robbie Barrios USA 19 Sep 69 79... 10 Years Old 5:06.5 John Lawton USA 20 Oct 69 80... 1500M 7 Years Old 5:02.88 Ramses Dukes USA 3Nov 92 Durham NC 21 Jul 00... 8 Years Old 4:57.47 Ramses Dukes USA 3Nov 92 Norfolk VA 31 Jul 01... 9 Years Old 4:44.8 John Soto USA 17Jul 69 Eugene OR 15 Jul 79... 10 Years Old 4:37.4 John SotoUSA 17Jul69 HuntingtonBeachCA 19Apr 80... You'll notice that a lot of these times are over a decade old, which might indicate the decline of interest and capabilities of American athletes over the last decade. Or has the list simply not been updated. But to be specific in 2001 Ramses Dukes broke the 5 minute 1500M barrier for 8 year olds in 4:57.47 which improved his AMAZING 7 Year Old Age group record by 5 seconds.
