It depends on what you think. I haven't had prom yet, but I don't plan on going. Why is that? Let me list the reasons that me and an older friend of mine will never go to prom:

  1. The cost; You will spend up to $500-$1000 on prom. The dresses are at the very least $250, the tickets are $50-$80, tux rentals are $150, and if you rent a limo, that's another $400! Don't forget shoes and dinner, which could end up being another $100.
  2. You will NEVER wear your prom dress again; and unless you're willing to risk getting dirt on those perfect shoes you found, they won't be broken in on the dance floor, and we all know that will be a pain.
  3. Acne; pimples and zits come out when we're stressed, right? So think of the breakout when prom's coming up.
  4. Prom will never be that magical night you dream of. It's just a dance where everything is more expensive.

Now if you are going to prom, here are some tips from other websites:

  1. Find your dress early; When prom is a few weeks away is when the dresses will get too expensive, and this way if you need adjustments you can get them done now.
  2. Book appointments at least 4 weeks ahead, and find a sweet hairdo before that.
  3. Break in your shoes (I know I said this is a risk, but if you wear them at home often then they are broken in and there is less risk.)
  4. Get dinner reservations: They run out fast, people.
  5. Bring a kit for emergencies; cell phone/quarters, makeup, money, and camera
