The word Archery comes from Latin, where "arc" means to curve (You should have learned this in elementary school...). The "arc" comes from the shape that the archer contorts the bow into in order to build up potential energy to propel the arrow forward.

To further, prove this...

In Spanish, the infinitive for "to do archery" is "tirar con arco". "Tirar" means to shoot and "arco" means arc.
