Modern recurve target/hunting bows are normally either laminated from wood and glassfibre, or, in the case of "Takedown" bows, (Bows with easily detachable limbs), either a wood or alloy handle, and wood/glassfibre laminated limbs. High-performance bows are now often carbon fibre rather than glassfibre. Historically, recurve bows have been made from virtually any locally-available materials, including laminated animal sinew, animal horn, wood, and anything else which will serve the purpose. Making a bow from these materials was a highly skilled craft, if not an art, and beautiful examples still exist to demonstrate the skill of these ancient craftsmen.
