The parts of a bow, in no particular order, are the

  • nocks - the grooves the string loops sit in
  • limbs - the long, bending portions of the bow (one on each side of the handle)
  • limb tips - the outer ends of the limbs
  • handle, or grip - the part the archer holds
  • arrow shelf - portion of the bow cut into the handle, usually used by Traditional archers for the arrow to rest on
  • arrow rest - accessory installed on bows for the arrow to rest on (helps to improve accuracy)
  • back - the side of the bow which faces the target as the bow is being used
  • belly - the side of the bow which faces the archer as the bow is being used
  • riser - the portion of the bow between the handle and the limbs
