A drop step starts when one man on the team passes the man on the block the ball. The man posting up has his back to his defender. When the ball is caught a pump fake over the opposite shoulder or other variations of moves can be made if the pure drop step isn't working on the defender. This move is a harder move to explain and easier to show, but basically the big man whips his leg around the other players leg, this can be done either towards the baseline or towards the key. It is important to remember you want to go towards the basket though in order to get a good shot off. When the leg kicks around, throw the Basketball down. Give it a big ol' power dribble, just one. This is so the move isn't a travel, and the force is to make the big man look bigger and intimidate the defense. Also if you throw the ball down weakly it can get poked out. Then you use the foot you whipped around to pivot on and spin around the defender. Go straight up, strong with two hands to the rim, throw it down if you can. It is a great fundamental move that can be extremely difficult if perfected.
