The United States of America won the the Summer Olympics in 2008 with 93 medals. However, the people's Republic of China won the most gold with 46 gold medals.

Winter Olympics: The highest was 36 made by Germany - but the United States just beat it by winning their 37th medal in hockey! (Unfortunately, it was only silver. But after all, we were guaranteed a medal in hockey anyway!)

Hope that answers your question!
