Generally at the end of the rope handle that's in the middle of the javelin. You either hold the last part of the rope handle with your index finger and thumb, in such a way that you're holding the edge while throwing to give your grip leverage, or you hold it between your 1st and 2nd fingers (which has a tendency to provide a little more lift - you need to judge if this is good for your technique or not). Old-timers had a 3rd alternative in that they held the rope grip in the middle (vs. on the end/edge).
