If the average Olympian trains for 10 years, anf the cost of training ranges from 8 to 10 thousand per year, that's $80,000 just in training. Now add tournaments, travel expenses, equipment, and often a separate place to live away from the family home during this time, etc. and the cost could easily be $250,000 or more.
