She did not attend any college. From the age of 6, she was trained in gymnastics at the school of coach Béla Károlyi and his wife. She appeared in competitions from the age of 8 until the age of 20 (1981) when she retired. She defected to the US in 1989 shortly before the Romanian revolution.
Romanian gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci is best known as the first woman to score a perfect ten in competition. Away from the gym, she did attend school at and eventually graduated from a Bucharest.
