∙ 11y agoThe black boxes were lights that were used during the opening ceremonies. They flashed and linked along with the music, and were also an interactive element for the audience. During the ceremony, there were "Mechanicals,"who demonstrated how and when to use the lights.

There is an individual LED screen for every seat in the Olympic Stadium. It is so they can do those dancing colour patterns over the whole stadium - for visual effects. Similar to spotlights except they can create images too. Pretty neat.
