He was taken to a nearby hospital but passed away later that day. Subsequent blood work revealed several types of amphetamines in Jensen's system, one of which was given to him and the other Danish riders by the team trainer. This was later denied by all involved and Jensen's death was attributed solely to the skull fracture.Regardless, Jensen's death led to the beginning of drug testing which started at the 1968 Games.
