No. It would have a terrible influence on the children with little gain to show for it. Your athletic prowess pre-puberty, while interesting, is hardly worth ruining a childhood over.

Answerer 2:

It's a good idea, but what about their education? They'd barely have time to do any school work as a result of having to train so much. Also, Competing (or even just training) could also cause serious injuries, so in my opinion, I'd have to say no. (of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion).

Some Olympic competitors and champions are children. Gymnasts, the current diving champion etc.
