Payment for winning Olympic medals varies by country.

The United States Olympic Committee pays its medal winners $25,000 to gold medal winners, $15,000 to those who take home a silver and $10,000 for a bronze. Some of the richer U.S. sport federations give additional prize money to their winners as well.

There are many appearances and endorsement deals that generally follow a gold medal winner.

they pay nothing. You get free lessons if the coaches think you have talent. The only way you get paid in the Olympics is if you are known or gold medal winner in Nationals. In regionals they don't care at all about you.

If you are in summer games not seen like the roller skating Olympics then you get nothing for national gold also ect. You get a medal like seen on the skate girls skate clips at www.facepaint.ws

If you are an ice skater and get a medal at NATIONALS you get money by companies wanting you do do ads or wear things with their logs ect.

Sorry but just how it is.

Individual Sports

50,000 naira for a gold medal

25,000 naira for a silver medal

10,000 naira for a bronze medal

Team Sports/Relays

$50,000 for a gold (family splits money)

$25,000 for a silver (family splits money)

$10,000 for a bronze (family splits money)

For example: In the 2008 Olympics Michael Phelps got $37,500 for realys and $250,000 for individual events. So a the end of the 2008 Olympics Michael Phelps had made $287,500!!!!!!!!!!

The Olympic Games are an amateur event, not a professional one. At least officially, none of the athletes receive any fees or salaries for their efforts. However, the ones who medal often end up with lucrative advertising and endorsement contracts after the Games.
