The Olympic Games were a grand festival famous all over the country. In this essay I will explain how the Ancient Greek Olympic Games have changed through time.
The Games began over 2,700 years ago in Olympia, in southwest Greece. The Games were part of a religious festival. The Greek Olympics, thought to have begun in 776 BC, inspired the modern Olympic Games (begun in 1896).
Held in honour of Zeus, king of the gods, people from all over Greece would travel miles to watch and take part in the games. Like today, different categorised groups of people would take part hoping to achieve gold. However unlike the modern Olympics, where countries are against countries, each state (e.g. Athens and Argos) would use their natives in order to win Gold.
Though unlike the modern Olympics, the behaviour from the players, coaches and supporters was terrible. Many cities would cheat and hurt the opponents so they could have victory.
Well the only difference that I know of is that we dont have horse racing or Chariot Racing but we do have every thing else .
