Michelle Kwan received a Bachelor's Degree from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies in Denver, CO in 2009. In 2011, she received a Master's in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. She has served in many public diplomacy positions beginning in 2006, including as an adviser to the US State Department. In 2013, Kwan married Clay Pell, whose grandfather, Claiborne Pell served six terms as a US Senator from Rhode Island. In 2014, Clay announced he would be running that year for governor of Rhode Island as a Democrat.

Michelle Kwan is a former figure skater who medaled twice in the Olympics, including winning a gold, as well as being the US champion 9 times and the world champion 5 times. She currently works for the State Department as a senior adviser for public diplomacy and public affairs.
