Lou Gehrig's disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is primarily caused by mutations in the C9orf72, SOD1, FUS, and TARDBP genes. These mutations can lead to the degeneration of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. ALS is not specifically linked to a particular chromosome.

Why could there never be a female hemophillia?

Hemophilia is an X-linked recessive disease which means the disease can manifest only if the genes on both chromosomes are affected. As males have only one X chromosome the disease always manifests. It is possible for a female to be affected but it is very rare.

Is huntingtons disease due to lack of chromosomes?

No, the Huntington's disease is inherited from either the mother or father. It's genes not a lack of chromosomes.

Are the chromosomes located in the genes?

No, the genes are in the chromosomes

Are chromosomes genes or are genes chromosomes?

Genes are stretches of DNA that contain code to make proteins. Chromosomes are made up of numerous Genes.

What makes a disease genetic?

A genetic desiese is your chromosomes or genes aren't how they are supposed to be. For example if someone has 47 chromosomes instead of 46 then they have a genetic disorder.

What is the similarities and difference between the segregation of genes and of chromosomes?

Both gene segregation and chromosome segregation involve the separation of genetic material during cell division. In gene segregation, alleles of a gene separate during meiosis, whereas chromosome segregation involves the separation of entire chromosomes. The key difference is that gene segregation refers to specific alleles segregating to daughter cells, while chromosome segregation refers to the distribution of entire chromosomes to daughter cells.

An abnormal condition that a person inherits through genes or chromosomes is a?

An abnormal condition that a person inherits through the chromosomes or genes is a genetic disorder.

What chromosomes are affected in sticklers syndrome?

Mutations in the COL11A1, COL11A2 and COL2A1 genes Found on wikipedia chromosome 1

Are chromosomes found on genes?

Chromosomes contain genes, which are the units of inheritance that carry genetic information. Genes are located on specific locations on chromosomes, known as gene loci. Each chromosome carries hundreds to thousands of genes that determine an individual's traits and characteristics.

Does crossing over combine or recombine unlinked genes?

Crossing over recombines linked genes by exchanging genetic material between homologous chromosomes during meiosis. Unlinked genes are not affected by crossing over as they are located on different chromosomes and segregate independently during meiosis.

Difference between chromosomes and genes?

Chromosomes are structures that contain genes, which are the functional units of heredity. Genes are specific segments of DNA that encode information for producing proteins, while chromosomes are made up of DNA and protein and contain many genes. Chromosomes are organized in pairs in a cell's nucleus, while genes are the specific units on chromosomes responsible for inherited traits.

The genes on the x and y chromosomes are called what?
