Olympic athletes must be a resident of the country they are representing. They must pass many levels of competition in order to qualify in their sport.
There is no way of knowing that answer right now because we don't know how many different countries will win gold medals during the Olympics. After the medals are awarded for an event, the national anthem for the country of the gold medal winner is played. We do know that, at the Opening Ceremony, the national anthem of the host country will be played. The host country for the 2012 Summer Olympics is the United Kingdom so its national anthem will be played. We do know that, at the Closing Ceremony, the national anthem of Greece, the host country, and the country to hold the next Summer Olympics will be played. That means, along with the national anthem of Greece, the national anthems of the United Kingdom and Brazil will also be played. The next Summer Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016. So, right now, we know three anthems that will be played ... United Kingdom, Greece, and Brazil.
