No. A crossbow is more like a bow mounted onto a stock with a trigger for firing. The stock is the only similarity to an actual rifle. Even the largest variation of a crossbow, the ballista, doesn't have any form of recoil. The force of the release of the string is apparent but negligible even in a large ballista.

I am an historic re-enactor and have used both crossbow and ballista.

A rifle of mass 2 kg is suspended by strings the rifle fires a bullet of mass 0.01 kg at a speed of 200 ms the recoil velocity of the rifle is what?

Since momentum is conserved in this system, the initial momentum of the rifle and bullet is equal to the final momentum of the rifle. You can find the recoil velocity of the rifle by setting up the equation: (2 kg) * V = (0.01 kg * 200 m/s). Solve for V to find the recoil velocity of the rifle.

How does a rifle demonstrate Newton's third law of motion?

When a rifle is fired, the bullet is propelled forward due to the force of the expanding gases pushing against it inside the barrel. Simultaneously, the rifle, in accordance with Newton's third law, experiences an equal and opposite force pushing backward, which is commonly known as recoil. This demonstrates the action-reaction principle of Newton's third law of motion.
