It depends on which president. Presidents can sometimes be extremely well-known world-wide; Barack Obama certainly fits this description. But actually, the comparison is unfair because a famous celebrity will be well-known for a while and then gradually, be replaced by some other celebrity. In the case of Michael Jackson, while he lived, he was a very popular (and at times controversial) figure and well-known throughout the world. But now that he is gone, it is difficult to say whether he is more famous than people who are alive and making their own headlines.
