In the early 1900s only the rich could afford an auto due to limited production, price, and complexity of the cars being produced. Henry Ford changed all that in 1908 when he started producing the Ford Model T. It sold for $850 in 1909 but by 1913 it dropped to $550 then $440 in 1915. In 1914, an assembly line worker could buy a Model T with four months' pay. By the 1920s, the price had fallen to $260 because of increasing efficiencies of assembly line technique and volume. By this time almost anyone could afford the simple Model T. This put America and the world on wheels. Everyone who owned a car became more mobile and could travel longer distances. People started hauling produce and supplies in their Model T pickups. Mobility and freedom to travel long distances changed everything,
