Yup
Crosby's eldest son wrote a critical memoir, 'Going My Own Way,' showing his father as cold, remote, and both physically and psychologically abusive. Two other sons stated Crosby abused them as well.
I believe that Louis Armstrong did own a baseball team. It was called "Armstrong's Secret 9 Baseball Team of New Orleans". It was an all black team I have an 8x10 photo dated 1931 of him with his team.
One of his main influences was Bing Crosby, another to a lesser extent was Mabel Mercer. He also listened to Russ Columbo and later Billie Holiday. Sinatra noted the influence of Tommy Dorsey's trombone playing in his phrasing and violinist Jasha Heifitz (sp).

I'm not sure that he was. Actually, Bing Crosby's biggest career as a vocalist began in the 1920s, and he enjoyed his greatest success during the 1930s and 1940s, the so-called Big Band Era. He had hundreds of hits and was beloved by fans who heard him on radio (where he had his own program), or saw him in movies or in concert. Crosby did have one big pop hit in 1955, along with Grace Kelly-- "True Love," which went to #3 on the charts. But by the 50s, the most popular performers were in the rock and roll genre. Crosby did make some popular movies in the 1950s, including "High Society" (that is where the hit song "True Love" came from). But by the 1950s, he was definitely not the huge star he had been in the three decades previous.
