The BCCI favours its own version of twenty 20 cricket, the IPL. The ICL was spearheaded by former captain Kapil Dev, offering the future talent of Indian cricket an opportunity to showcase their skills on a big stage alongside retired international players such as Brian Lara. The BCCI, had no control over this tournament so banned ICL players from representing India.
