I have heard that the Darlington speedway is called the "Lady in Black" because of the tendency of the drivers to rub their tires against "her" white retaining walls. I believe the effect happens because of variations of bank angle on the corners, and the tendency of the wall to create a negative air effect which surprises drivers by drawing them into the wall.
