different sports are more popular in different countries because while cricket was starting in england, Baseball and N.F.L were starting in america
That is a very tough question to answer. The above is correct in that sports which are invented in a country generally are more popular in that country. But I think a lot of the reasons come down to what people enjoy. Sports are meant to be fun and entertaining and some people find certain sports more entertaining than other people. You can ask 10 different people what their favorite sport is and you might get 10 different answers.
If by south Africa you mean South Africa, it isn't. Rugby is actually the most popular sport, and by far the sport they have had the most success in, though I suppose that is one of the many sports that can be referred to as "football". If by south Africa you mean southern Africa, I'm not aware of it being any more popular in southern Africa than the rest of Africa, where it is popular because it is cheap to play, Africa has a warm climate conducive to outdoor sports, and because of the British and French colonial presence there in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
This is really oppinionated. But think American football is the most popular. I think american football is more popular sports among citizens. Even though in China, talk most is the NBA. but in real citizens life, American football is more popular:)
Sport is considered a national pastime in Sweden, and about half of the population actively takes part in sports activities. The most important all-embracing organisations for sports in Sweden are the Swedish Sports Confederation, and the Swedish Olympic Committee. In total over 2 million people (about 20% of the total population) are members of a sports club. The sports with most participants are handball, football, golf, gymnastics and athletics, while the sports with the largest number of television spectators are football, ice hockey, handball, bandy, golf, motor sport (especially speedway) and athletics. Ice hockey and football are the main sports. Winter sports are also popular, both in the number of participants and in spectators, while floorball gained large popularity in the 1990s amongst participants, spectators really grew in the last 5 years to outnumber other team sports amongst the spectators. Other popular sports include bandy, basketball, orienteering, tennis and table tennis. Except for basketball, the American sports have not gained much popularity, although American football and baseball are practised.Popular recreational sports and activities include brännboll (popular in schools), boule, kubb, skiing, swimming, gymnastics, walking, running, cycling, dancing, fishing and hunting.

It is not particularly important. There are far more popular sports, ones which are of particular interest and importance to people. Soccer is popular across all of Europe, as are many sports, and many individual countries have their own national sports that are of great interest within those countries. Handball is a minority sport.
Sports in the United States are an important part of the national culture. However, the sporting culture of the U.S. is different from that of many other countries. Compared to any other nation, Americans prefer a unique set of sports. For example, soccer or cricket, the most popular sports in most other countries, are not as popular in the U.S. compared to the four most popular team sports, namely, American football, basketball, baseball, and ice hockey. The major leagues of each of these sports enjoy massive media exposure and are considered the preeminent competitions in their respective sports in the world. The preeminence of the major leagues is partially attributed to their strong financial power and huge domestic market, as well as the fact that relatively few other countries play some of their dominant sports, like American football, to any significant extent. For more information follow the related link below.
