Here's one of interest to NO Saints fans: QB John Fourcade started three games for the Saints during the strike. He went 2-1 and later caught on with the Saints regulars. His inspired play at the end of the 1989 season convinced management to let regular Bobby Hebert sit out a season. Alas, Fourcade was woeful as the starter in 1990 and the Saints traded for Steve Walsh. Fourcade was the quintessential replacement player, a spunky journeyman dear to the local hearts. As a footnote, one player went on to a different kind of successs in the NFL. Saints headcoach Sean Payton was a replacement QB for the Bears. His brief career ended with a loss to the Saints in the final replacement game.
