Not in Norway at least...

(from previous poster)

hi. Yes, it is considered a "sport" and a way of finding money, but personally I HATE this sport. It's almost like bashing human babies over the head with clubs! How cruel! I know I'm a hypocrite to say this, but killing of any innocent animals is really awful! The only thing is, with cows if you don't eat them, they go mad. Literally. I feel really bad about killing baby seals. :(

Yeah i agree with the person above totally ^^^^

im doing a speech on Sealing and i did lots of research. SO here are a few facts:

  • it is tenichally called a sport in Canada, Namibia, Noraway and Russia.
  • hundreds of thousands of seals are killed each year ( mostly baby Harp seals)
  • it has been tourism in the above countries since the 1880's.
  • The Seal Hunt is not econimiacally important. Sealers make one twetieth o\f their yearly income from sealing.
  • The are killed for their fur and skin for clothing to sell to Prad, Gucci and some other fashion labels.
  • The Canadian vernment has quota's that sealers are not allowed to exceed (sorry i don't know what they are) but in previous years, the government let them exceed the quota by more than 37 000 seals, and a few years later, the same but 16 000 seals over.
  • both of these times, the Minister of fisheries and oceans extended the season from May 15 to June and the second time, extended it until mid June.
  • heres another fact... send a letter to the minister. U can get the addresses at www.canadiansealhunt.com
  • PLEASE. DO SOMETHING.
