It wasn't quite at the end of the stage but carpet tacks were thrown on the road by a spectator, causing flat tires for around 30 riders. This caused the group containing race leader, Bradley Wiggins, to stay neutral and wait for Cadel Evans. Evans had to change tires 3 times due to punctures and was in contention for the overall lead.
