The Giants were forced to expand their options when several starters were sidelined by injuries before and during the 2015 season. By August 1, their starting rotation consisted of Madison Bumgarner, the hero of the 2014 World Series, Matt Cain, Jake Peavy, rookie Chris Heston and newcomer Mike Leake. Also in and out of the rotation were Ryan Vogelsong, Tim Lincecum and veteran Tim Hudson. Yusmeiro Petit shored up the bullpen as a long-reliever and occasional starter. The other relief specialists, included Sergio Romo, Javier Lopez, Santiago Casilla and George Kontos.
