It depends what event do you want to train for? because i myself run the 1600m and usually i go run like 3-5 miles depending on how i am feeling and sometimes some speed workouts. It just depends what event you are planning on running now if you are running the 400meters I'm assuming you lift weight and you do a lot of strength training. It just depends.

-pasta dinner the night before (superstition)
-go on a short run the day before
-stretch alot
-do some strides
-listen to lots of pump up music
-make sure to sleep
