Ricky Johnson was one of the winningest riders, david bailey and Jeff ward also won multiple titles....there were 3 classes of premier racing back then (125, 250 and 500cc)

but to answer your question Ricky Johnson is likely the best remembered for his number of championships from the mid-to late 80's
