British Driver James Hunt won the race in 1976 but was disqualified 2 months later to hand over the race victory to Niki Lauda. The situation under which he was disqualified are as follows:

Hunt was involved in a first corner crash that prompted the red flags and the race was stopped. He was initially not allowed to take part in the race restart but because of crowd protest and since he was British and the home fans were causing an angry protest, he was later allowed to take the race restart to avoid crowd trouble. He won the restarted race. However in September 1976, two months after the race, Ferrari appealed or rather protested with the F1 governing body against Hunt being allowed to race at the restart and hence Hunt was disqualified and the 2nd place Niki Lauda was handed the victory.
