The first RM 125 was launched in 1975 by the company Suzuki. RM 125 was not competitive against other bikes like Kawasaki KX, Honda CR and Yamaha YZ models and was quickly modified in 1975. After its modification, it was renamed the model as RM 125S.

Suzuki has made a RM 125 every year since 1975. The 75 RM lineup replaced the successful TM lineup.
No, the 1990 RM cylinder doesn't fit the 1988 cylinder. The 1988 cylinder is the only year that'll fit on a 1988 motor. This was the first year Suzuki did that. It actually sucks because I have a 1988 RM 125 I've been trying to get a cylinder for. And the 1988 cylinder is the only match. Nothing else would fit.
