∙ 11y agoDale Sr. drove the blue and yellow Wrangler #3 car for the last 11 races of the 1981 season, (switching from the #2 Wrangler car) and also from 1984 to 1987. In 1982 and 1983 he drove the #15 Wrangler car.

∙ 11y agoDale Sr. first drove the #3 car in 1981. He began that season driving the #2 car, but over the final eleven races he used the #3. Dale did not drive the #3 car again until the beginning of the 1984 season. From that time on, it was his only number.
