the first car to reach 200 mph was the ferrari f40 . it went 201 before other cars could reach 200

the first awnser is wrong it was the Lamborghini Diablo in 1991.

Both wrong 1st road car was the Ford GT40 in 1966. The Ford gt40 made it to 217. If you want to get technical, the first answer is incorrect as well.

I would just like to add that we could also look at cars like the Mercedes C111 which hit 200mph (320 kph) in 1978. However this was not a production car because of the economic crisis at the time. We could also look at a modified, non-street-legal version of this car - the Merc C111-IV which hit 251mph (403kph) in 1979. These are all very impressive cars but hats off to the 330 P4!

-The Ferrari F40 was the first production, street legal, non-racing, factory car to reach speeds of over 200 mph. The 330 P4 was both race and street legal and was originally made for the track. The Ferrari F40 was made for the road originally. FYI, The Diablo was made in 1991, and the only reason it could go faster than the F40, was that the F40 had a big rear wing for handling and down force, causing it to slow down after about 165 mph. If the F40 and the Diablo were to race in a 1 mile drag, the F40 would be far ahead before the finish because of its far superior power to weight ratio. In my opinion, the Diablo is just an over-rated, heavy, underpowered, pile of crap that can only go 202 because of its extreme aerodynamic capabilities.

Actually, the first EVER car to hit 200 was the sunbeam 1000hp.
