In my experience it truly depends on the teams needs and your level of competence. During the last nine years I have placed over 300 men and women on teams, they are very guarded about the salary. Id do know that there can be a living wage and with time it can grow. Best bet: Get your hands on a race car with a friend, go to a local race - join SCCA and flag a while. Stay in school and take some machining classes even consider taking a formal school like to one I run. Get your hands in there and be positive - a nut is a nut a bolt is a bolt a team is about people. Depending on your experience 7 or 8 when starting to 20 to 30 when experienced per hour
it all depends who you are working for. Dealer, private, factory ect.. I have had exp. working for Harley Davidson. I am certified for v-rod, buell, screaming eagle, early and late model, dynojet and have just about all the PHD training courses completed. I am also Kawasaki K-tech certified. I was only making $10 USD an hour for a certified HD dealer. I was just an entry level Tech though. So it comes down to exp. The bad part is, no one really wants to give entry level technicians a chance. But to answer your question, private work is the only way to make money. you make your customer buy the parts, and you charge them an hour rate. you can basically make your own hour price. I charge 50 to 70 USD an hour depending on what work needs to be done. I also have flat rprice on oil changes, tires ect.. but the good thing about that is, your still making money and charging half of what the dealer wants an hour. so personally its win/win for you. hope this helped
Thank You
