IRL stands for the Indy Racing League. It is an American-based open-wheel racing series which sanctions two series, the premier IZOD IndyCar Series, whose Super Bowl is the Indianapolis 500, and Firestone Indy Lights, the official developmental series of the Indy Racing League. The IRL intends to sanction a third series, a revival of the entry-level U.S. F2000 National Championship, beginning in 2010.
