They are just exhibition races. The drivers make bonus money and have fun without the pressure of points racing. There are 3 non point races during the season, the Budweiser Shootout in February, the All-Star race in May and the Sprint Showdown, which is just hours before the All-Star race, the winner and runner up qualify for the All-Star race. The only other important non point races are the Gatorade Duels. Those 2 February races determine the qualifying positions for the Daytona 500.
