Foyt was born in the post-depression years in the Heights, a poor section of Houston. Foyt focused solely on racing. He dropped out of high school several months before graduation to get a jumpstart on his professional career which began in 1953 at Playland Park in Houston. It wasn’t long before his career took him out of Houston and out of Texas.
