"If you want to make a small fortune in motorsport, you need to start with a large fortune." Dick Johnson

Racing is expensive, if you want to get to the Travis Pastrana level, you need to either have access to endless financial resources or start at the bottom. Join a club in your area and get involved. You'll meet people that are as excited about the sport as you are and have a outlet for your enthusiasm. Many clubs have events that will allow you to race your daily driver. Don't have a car? Be someone's co-driver or learn how the event is run by volunteering. Any of this experience is valuable.

It's not just what you know, but who you know. Be of value to someone, help them out with their car if you have mechanical abilities. Spend some time working the stands, or flagging the event, people will get to know you. If you don't have the right connections, will you get sponsored? Probably not. Will you need sponsorship to race professionally? Most likely. So get out there and start meeting new people.

It may take a while, but you can work your way up to the top. If you are good at what you do and people can at least tolerate you, then you have a chance at success.
