It depends. Some drivers can spring out from no where and have natural talent and the ability to race. Others like even myself have to start small and have many hours of practice and still aren't as good as others. Mostly they start off in go karts at like 5 to 8 years old. Then they go into some local dirt track or asphalt cars followed by moving into lower tier Nascar series and then with sponsorship and performance they can get a sprint cup ride.
The minimum age to race in the NASCAR Camping World Series (East and West) and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (North and South) is 16. Otherwise, you have to be 18 to race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
the age is 18. too young . A driver who won in the truck race at bristol tonight was only 17. Wrong and dumb. He has only had a drivers license for a year. You put him in a 2000 lb missle and let him drive at a ridiculous speed with no experience and a undeveloped brain. It won't be fully developed until the age of 25. The age should not be any younger than 21 and preferably 25. All for the sake of money. And that is all that is on his mind. money and speed. Win at all cost. I taught drivers ed for high school two summers and know that 16, 17, 18 etc us not the age for a race car driver. Get a brain. A brain is not fully devoloped until the age of 25.
Right now you have to be 18 to race in any of the top three divisions (Camping World Truck Series, Nationwide, and Sprint Cup) but they are trying to change it to 21.
The youngest nascar driver in history to start a race is Joey Logano driver of the #20 car. He was 18 when he started. I would say you need to be at least 18
Nascar in 2021 is now 73 years old
