In the NHRA people can make between 1 million and 2 million dollars a year....but after paying the crews and everything....probably about 400,000 a year or 500,000 a year. In some semi-pro class's people can make about 50,000 to 100,000 dollars a year, depends on how many races they do

That question is actually pretty easy to answer. I will tell you the same thing I tell people when they ask me to build them a race car. How fast do you want to go, and what do you want to do with the car when not racing it. Local dragstrips have classes, or brackets, to keep things somewhat even, then they can handicap the slower car, at the starting line. So, you can race anything from a jet car, all the way to your Mom's Focus. Therefore, each level is going to cost acordingly. The car that you drive to work, about 20 bucks, for the weekend. A funny car, about 10-15 grand a pass! Start with your work car, and have some fun! Be careful, though. There is a nasty bug, that hangs out at dragstrips............
All based on: popularity, skill, team, and sponsor. In NASCAR a driver for a big team (Hendrick, RCR, ETC) a driver could earn 7 to 10 Million.
In F1 a driver for a big team (redbull, Ferrari, ETC) they could earn 10-15 Million.
but then you have to add in the sponsor and how much you get paid from your team and/or if the team want money from you.
it all depends on the division and the level of competition. local tracks can start pay on each race from $25-500. the big boys factor in advertising and endorsments and can make up to 20-30 million a year.
low side would be about $400 a year for someone who isn't really competitive
