The answer depends on the quality of the gear your looking for, and how much you willing to spend. another factor is the optional protection.

heres some estimates.

helmet: $90-$600

goggles: $25-$60

neckbrace: $100-$400 (optional, but highly reccomended)

chest protector: $75-$100 (also option and highly reccomended)

jearsey: $20-$40

pants: $90-$200

gloves: $15-$50

boots: $100-$500

knee pads: $15-$30

socks: $15-$25

So for top of the line, fanciest gear possible, your looking around $1500-$2000

i normally spend about $500 a year on gear. helmets, boots, neckbraces and chest protectors will last you awhile so you hardly ever will have to pay the $1500 at one time. if you new, start off with the cheap stuff. that way your only spending a couple hundred on gear. guys i race with, that have the gaerne boots, nad shoei helmts(those alone are around $1000) probably spend more than a few thousand a year on gear. if you have the extra money, don't hesitate to buy some spare gear.

like..

3 goggles, 2 jearseys, 2 helmets, 2 pairs of riding socks, 2 pairs kneepads.. etc.. just in case something breaks or gets lost. Hope this helps :D

Ride safe!
