How many persons in a F1 pitstop?

The current Formula One structure has 10 teams. Each team has two drivers. There is also a test driver, who obviously tests the car to see if there advantages gained from improvements to the car. The pit crew contains about 15 race engineers and mechanics, but this varies from team to team. There are also around 5-6 race strategists who control the drivers race, including tyre and fuel strategies. So all in all there is around 25 members in an F1 team.

A pitstop team for a formula one race would be around 20 people. The team would change the 4 tyres, adjust the cars wings if required, refuel it, clean the drivers visor and even perform minor repairs.

The team size may be increased or decreased based on the requirement and budgeting.

Usually there are as many pit crews in Formula One as the number of teams in the years racing calendar. Last year 2010 we had 12 teams and hence 12 pit crews. Each pit crew has more than 20 odd members and they all cater to the pit stop requirements of the 2 drivers of each team. This year 2011 too it would be the same.

There are six who normally help make the stop. The car chief (usually on the front right tire) The three other tires. One for the air jack. One for the fuel hose (called the fuelman)
