I don't think F1 cars have a reverse gear. They are not like normal cars wherein the driver is expected to drive the vehicle both forward and backward. If a F1 car needs to be reversed, the driver puts the car in neutral gear and mechanics push the car backwards.

Cars that can last you a long time would be toyota, honda, and nissan. Toyota has been none to have cars last 300k to 400k miles more then any car. Honda 280k to 390k miles. Nissan 280k to 300k miles.
Other than a fault inside the gear-box, it's common for the linkage on top of the gear-box to wear, causing poor/difficult selection of 1st, 2nd, and sometimes reverse gear, off the top of my head the repair kit is 93181355, about £60. The repair kit is only of use as long as you can still get reverse. It's also been redesigned to reduce wear.
