The record for a NASCAR legal car is 212.809 mph set by Bill Elliott in 1987, he set this record during qualifying at Talladega. In 2004, Rusty Wallace tested a NASCAR race car with no restrictor plate at Talladega Super Speedway and it recorded a top speed of 228 mph.
we took my 1972 Dodge coronet pro mod drag car on a full sized oval track we got to about 280 but I wasn't driving it was a professional and he said it was scary af I've got a 500ci hemi with a psi blower and a top fuel intake It makes about 5000hp and 3000ibf of torque
It depends on the cars.
Rally about 120 (that's on a dirt road so it's fast).
Nascar about 180-200.
F1 about 200-220.
Because now they use restrictor plates at Daytona and Talladega, they can't go as fast.
A restrictor plate is simply a plate with a set size hole in it that the engine has to suck all its air through. It's a basic and simple way to limit how much power an engine can make, to keep the competition fair and the vehicles from getting dangerously fast.
Restrictor Plates.
Rusty Wallace ran a fast lap at Talladega with the restrictor plate taken off. He had an average speed of 221.00 mph. After the lap, he told Nascar officials that there was no way the drivers could drive that fast in a pack of 43 cars.
For carbureted vehicles NASCAR requires the use of a restrictor plate that goes under the carburetor and restricts the amount of fuel and air entering the engine. On fuel injected vehicles, they use an electronic engine control unit that restricts the engine to a preset horsepower.
The fastest lap in Nascar was an average speed of 212.809. This record was set by Bill Elliott in a qualifying lap at Talladega Superspeedway in 1987. This was before restrictor plates were in use.
On super speedways, they can reach speeds of 200 miles per hour. They are slower on short tracks. Today, the fastest they can go is 202 mph. Currently with the restrictor plate carbs, they can go about 190, at tracks like Talladega and Daytona. Which they are tracks where you run wide open all the way around and is too fast for safety. Other tracks such as California (Auto Club Speedway) and Atlanta Motor Speedway they run about 200-205 mph. A Nascar car can usually get up to about 200 miles per hour on a large track. However though, there is a thing called a restrictor plate that makes a Nascar car slow down. They use restrictor plates strictly as a safety matter so the car does not get thrown into the air because of all the air. So I guess it really depends on what kind of car, what kind of track and what the rules are on the race track.

Fast cars never go out of style
They can change it in 7seconds
NASCAR began in 1948. At first it was just mainly men that would run from the sheriff because they were making moonshine, and that's why they had fast cars.
pretty fast
