this depends on a couple factors. one, are you going to be riding on trails, tracks, open fields, etc? i can recommend a few models for you however. im not sure which brand you prefer, so ill all of them.

if you want a trail bike, i recommend looking these models up-Yamaha tt-r 230, Honda

crf230 L, suzuki drz 250 or drz 400, kawasaki klx 250, and ktm 300 xc.

some of these models are street legal or can be made street legal. theyre all four stroke, some are fast some are slow, youll have to do some research.

here are some dual sport cycles, all of them are street legal.

Yamaha xt 650, Honda xr 650, suzuki drz 650, kawasaki klr 650, or ktm 690.

all these are 4 strokes too, and these have a taller seat height which may be a bit difficult for you to saddle up on. theyre fast though.

and finally there are the competetion models. these are race bikes and ready to burn.

Yamaha yz 125, Yamaha yz 250(f) Honda cr 125, Honda cr(f) 250 r, Honda cr 250, kawasaki kx 125, kawasaki kx 250 (f), suzuki rm 125 suzuki rm 250, (f), and ktm sx 125, ktm sx 250 (f)

of the following, all the 125s are 2 stroke, and youll note that after the 250s, i have the "f" in parenthesis. this means you can either get thhis model in 2 or 4 stroke. for example, if you wanted to look up the Yamaha yz 250 2 stroke, youd enter "Yamaha yz 250" whereas if you wanted the four stroke model, youd enter "Yamaha yz 250 f"
